Peer Review Process
How a submission moves from receipt to decision.
The stages
- Initial screening by the editorial desk for scope, form and completeness.
- Internal analytical review: logic, consistency, depth and gaps.
- Editorial review: language, structure and clarity.
- Technical validation: data, citations and numerical claims, and a check that no sensitive data is included.
- Senior review and advisory clearance: strategic relevance, policy implications and institutional alignment.
- Finalisation and formatting, then publication and dissemination.
Who reviews
- Reviews are carried out by members of the Editorial Ecosystem matched to the form of publication: research advisors for monographs and individually authored books, editors for edited volumes, the Editorial and Publication Board for web publications, and each journal's editorial board for journal articles.
Decisions
- Accept, accept with minor revisions, revise and resubmit, or decline. The author receives the reasons for the decision and the reviewers' comments.
Confidentiality and fairness
- Manuscripts under review are confidential. Reviewers judge the work, not the author, and declare any conflict of interest before they begin.
After publication
- Reader and reviewer feedback is collected so that standards keep improving, and corrections are made openly where needed.
