Our People
The Honorary Advisory Council is the circle of persons of eminence whom the Institute invites to share in its purpose of Safeguarding the Nation's Core. It is meant for those whose experience in public service, the defence and security services, diplomacy, the judiciary and the law, industry, science, the academy, the professions and the life of society gives their counsel a weight that the Institute could not acquire on its own.
Members of the Council are invited, not appointed, and their association is an honour that the Institute holds in trust. They offer their guidance on the Institute's direction and priorities; where they consider it fitting, they extend their good offices so that the Institute's research and proposals receive a considered hearing from Government departments, public institutions, regulators, industry bodies, academic societies and civil society; and they help the Institute's work reach those who are in a position to apply it in the national interest.
Distinguished Visitors are persons of standing who honour the Institute with a visit, address its gatherings or engage with its work for a period. Friends of the Institute are well-wishers who lend it their goodwill and encouragement.
Association with the Council carries no financial obligation and no executive responsibility. Each member is received with the courtesies due to their office, acknowledged in the Institute's publications and gatherings, and kept informed of the work that their counsel makes possible. Names are shown on this page only with the member's consent.
